Every year, Double A Solutions awards a $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior or current college/university student in the U.S. or Canada. This scholarship challenges students to reflect on their personal experiences with leadership, resilience, and growth – qualities we believe are essential for building stronger communities and workplaces.

This year, the winning essay came from Beverly Holton, an incoming freshman at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service. Her essay, Leading Through Change and Uncertainty, is a powerful reflection on courage, value-driven leadership, and the ability to guide others through challenging times.

A Moment of Conflict, A Lesson in Leadership

In her essay, Beverly shared how her high school advocacy club faced a deeply divisive moment when global conflict sparked emotional disagreements among its members. As club president, she was suddenly faced with an impossible decision: remain neutral and risk inaction or take a stand that might upset those she cared about.

Beverly chose to lead with integrity. She crafted a statement that advocated for all children impacted by war, regardless of politics or borders. Though her decision initially caused backlash, she refused to give up on the club’s mission.

Instead, she reached out to every member, listened to differing perspectives, and rebuilt trust one conversation at a time. Slowly, the group found its footing again and emerged even stronger, united by a deeper understanding of their purpose and the importance of amplifying diverse voices.

Through this experience, Beverly learned that:

  • Leadership often means standing up for values even when it’s unpopular.
  • True leaders listen, communicate openly, and seek understanding, even in disagreement.
  • Uncertainty isn’t a reason to stop moving forward – it’s an opportunity to grow.

This moment solidified her passion for diplomacy and foreign service, but more importantly, it shaped her belief that leadership is about serving others with humility and courage.

Why Beverly’s Story Resonates with Us

At Double A Solutions, we believe that great teams thrive on the same principles Beverly demonstrated:

  • Integrity and Respect – Making decisions rooted in fairness, even when it’s hard.
  • Collaboration and Communication – Taking time to listen, learn, and value every voice.
  • Adaptability and Problem-Solving – Staying resilient in the face of challenges and uncertainty.
  • Service to Others – Acting with purpose, knowing our work impacts lives beyond our immediate view.

These values guide our culture and the way we build solutions for the businesses we serve. Whether we’re helping organizations improve communication, streamline operations, or create better workplaces, we know success comes from people who care about doing what’s right.

Building Leaders Who Drive Positive Change

Beverly’s story reminds us that leadership isn’t about titles or recognition – it’s about showing up when it matters most, making tough decisions, and creating space for growth even in difficult times.

That’s the kind of mindset we look for when recruiting new team members. At Double A Solutions, we’re looking for people who share our values, who are eager to learn, and who want to make a meaningful impact through their work.

Our annual scholarship is just one way we invest in the next generation of leaders. By supporting students like Beverly, we’re reminded of why we do what we do: to build tools, teams, and communities that can thrive through change.
