The December mini-season will be a break in the usual podcasting content to discuss a Toledo-based company that we find fascinating! We’ll be back to the usual content and episode lengths in January for Season 2, which will be built around improving interpersonal connections inside and outside the business.

Hello everyone and welcome to Everyday Business Solutions. My name is Halie Morris. I’m your podcast coordinator and host.

We’re going to be doing a mini-series throughout the entire month of December and for it, I have a special guest; Ryan Hacker, president of TruePoint Laser Scanning.

So we’re going to feature their business for the entire month of December to really give you an in-depth look at 3D laser scanning.

For this episode, in particular, we’re going to dive into their company and exactly who TruePoint is.

So Ryan, if you don’t mind, can you tell us more about your point?

Ryan Hacker  1:07

Sure. So TruePoint was started in 2001.

I actually purchased my first scanner at that point, when we saw this perfect storm of scanners becoming fast enough, the 3D software becoming the mainstream software, if you will, and then computers becoming powerful enough that they could handle all this 3D.

We noticed that people were really starting to get to a point where they needed 3D information.

A friend of mine actually had introduced me to the technology and I immediately saw the benefit of being able to save people time and cost with all sorts of different industries.

This technology has made rapid advancements in the construction and engineering industry for more than 20 years, but it’s really become mainstream here in the last few years.

Halie  2:04

So out of curiosity, because I know I’m new to it, and some of our listeners may be too, but what is laser scanning?

Ryan  2:13

So, 3D laser scanners use what’s called LiDAR and it’s to measure and record very precise locations and distances, ultimately producing what’s called a point cloud.

That technology enables us to produce highly accurate digital measurements and images quickly and easily for use in construction and engineering projects.

3D laser scanning is a revolutionary tool to document existing conditions and it is invaluable in design, prefabrication, asset management, and facility modifications.

Halie  2:48

Oh, that’s pretty cool, though. So to do all that you probably have a pretty solid team then. Who makes up your team?

Ryan  2:57

So our team is built of project managers that can quickly mobilize and service anywhere in the US. they’re spread around the country.

We also have an in-house team of engineers, architects, and CAD technicians that create our custom BIM and CAD deliverables in a variety of formats, from raw data to 2D drawings to 3D models, really at any level of detail that they need.

Then our project team works together to deliver the project requirements on time and on budget.

Halie  3:32

Ryan, so what industries does TruePoint serve?

Ryan  3:37

So our clients range from project managers, engineers, and architects in a variety of industries.

Some of the industries would include construction, industrial facilities, manufacturing process, power plants, oil and gas, healthcare, historical documentation, wastewater, water treatment plants, universities, stadiums, statues, government, and even defense.

We are a mid-sized company, but we’re able to really service small and large clients alike.

The only thing we don’t do is we don’t scan small objects. That’s considered what’s called reverse engineering. That would be something like this microphone stand, for example.

We scan objects more like buildings and refineries. Probably the smallest object we can do is the size of a vehicle.

Halie  4:37

That’s pretty cool. So you guys get a little bit of everyone it sounds like within that.

Ryan  4:42

Yeah and truthfully, that’s one of the things that I really liked about this industry when I was first introduced to it. I saw that we could provide services for so many industries across the board.

Halie  4:56

So with all that being said, you’re obviously not the only one that does it. What sets TruePoint above the rest?

Ryan  5:03

So in my biased opinion, TruePoint is dedicated to delivering the highest quality 3D laser scanning services.

We use state of the art equipment, technology, and processes. We truly possess the passion, resources, experience, and capabilities to provide a full range of 3D laser scanning and modeling services.

Our project managers undergo an extensive training program to ensure their competence in terms of field knowledge and providing the best possible results for every project.

So, we use primarily Leica laser scanners. They’re the industry leader and they’re survey-grade scanners. Truly, these are known as the best scanners in the market. The data that we get out of it is very complete. It’s very clean, accurate, and well filtered with very low range noise.

Then, you know, our engineers, our architects, and CAD technicians are constantly advancing their education to improve our efficiency and expedite deliverables for our clients.

It’s that constant personal development that really enables us to provide the best quality and service to our clients.

Halie  6:19

It sounds like you really care about it, that you’ve taken that extra step to ensure it’s that higher level of professionalism.

Ryan  6:25

Absolutely. I mean, that is truly what sets us apart. Laser scanning itself is truly a commodity. It’s the value can we bring to the clients that allow us to stand out.

Halie  6:38

So our podcast is called Everyday Business Solutions and what we’re doing is trying to bring forth those everyday solutions for our listeners. How does TruePoint tie into that?

Ryan  6:52

3D laser scanning provides value throughout the planning, design, and execution phases of any project.

We provide solutions to documenting the as-built environment for facilities, for facility management, architects, engineers, and construction professionals across the board.

Halie  7:12

Thank you, Ryan!

This has been our first segment of our mini-season with TruePoint Laser Scanning for Everyday Business Solutions.

Thank you for tuning in and check back next week so we can find out more about what this company does.
